I am a cricket fan and also dreamt of playing for team India. Cricket has taught me so many life lessons that I thought of sharing this with you :
The important thing in life is not to triumph but to compete
Compete : Cricket teaches you to compete. Competition makes your stronger and you need to keep schilling yourself to stay ahead of the competition.
A hero is someone who knows how to hang on one minute longer.
You have to be at the crease to score : There are times when conditions are not in your favor. All you have to do at that time is to stay at the wicket and wait for conditions to improve or you will get eliminated from the game. You can only score runs when you are at the crease. You can only talk big from the pavilion.
Keep your eye on what you are responsible to and for, that will keep you right
Watch the ball : To timely hit the ball you have to ensure that you keep your eye on the ball till the last moment. This is so true in life where you should focus on the task at hand to ensure that you get the best results. You should ensure the completion of task in the best possible way.
Obstacles should not stop you. If you come across a wall do not step back. Figure out how to climb it, go through it or work around it.
Duck the bouncers : Sometime you need to duck the bouncers. Sometimes life throws bouncers in the form of difficult situation which are difficult to resolve. It is sometimes a good strategy to duck out of the situation and avoid getting hit or pulled into the situation
You find your strengths and play them up
Play on your strengths : There are very few people who are blessed like Tendulkar. There are few like Rahul Dravid who have to regerresly grind hard and identify their strengths and then play with it. It is always a good idea to identify your strengths and then play on them in life as well. These strengths may very from patience, dedication or being true always.
Talent wins game but team wins championships
Playing with a team : Cricket is a team sport. You win and lose as a team. Living these heights and lows teach us to respect our team members for what they are and appreciate the fellow team mates.
Inch by Inch life’s a cinch – Yard by Yard Life’s hard
Break bigger goals into smaller ones : There is something about Virat Kohli as he is considered on of the best players of the game. When you listen to him he talks about breaking the bigger goals into smaller goals and achieving them. The same is true in life as well. Inch by Inch life’s a cinch – Yard by yard it’s’ hard.
Character is higher than intellect. A great soul would be strong to live as well as think
Longer the game the stronger the character required : Test cricket teaches us that if you want to be a test cricketer then you need to have a strong cricketer. You will see that its only the strong characters which thrive at the test level. Skills of the cricketers are put to test for longer periods of time and it becomes difficult to maintain the consistency – I think this is the reason that it is called as test cricket. If you are in something for a longer period of time then you need to ensure that you lay the foundation right and build a strong character.
