Today’s era, full of competition, full of hustle and bustle, each one is ready to pull down legs of their competitor, like the frogs in the well.
Have you gone through a feeling, a feeling where you do the same amount of hard work as your colleague does, you put the same amount of pain and sweat in accomplishing it, but your colleague eats the cherry? I know, you would have gone through this many a times and are right now able to connect yourself well through this.
Let me explain you what I want to say, in a better way. Let’s suppose there are 2 office mates, Vinay and Vikas. Both work under the same boss, at the same designation, get the same tasks to accomplish. They forget the time slice, being dedicated, they put their hundred percent to impress their boss.
When asked by the boss for results, they both put forward their crux. But here comes the TWIST! Vinay wins the race. But how? Being the fact their work done was equal!
With an anxious and sad feeling, Vikas questioned his boss the reason for not promoting him. His boss, to make Vikas self-realize the reason behind, gave them a simple task, again. He instructed them to go to the market and enquire the rates of watermelons at which they were being sold. Both went to the market, did the work and returned.
When Vikas was asked to utter the information, he informed about the rates only, but when Vinay was asked to utter, he described it in the best possible way. He enquired about not only the rates at which they were sold, but all about the seller who sold it at the least rates, i.e he compared the rates, he summarized his boss about how can we be in profit, being cost effective and without compromising with the quality, that is he landed to a more detailed information, unlike Vikas who only enquired the rates from a single retailer.
This was self-explanatory to Vikas and acted as a reason that prompted Vinay’s promotion.
The reason behind Vinay’s win was EFFORTS! EXTRA EFFORTS! Vikas did the only work that was told to him to do, but on other hand, Vinay had a habit inculcated in him, to do something extra other than what is just said. He had a habit to add on. This habit of adding on made Vinay to grab the cherry, since he was promoted to the next level, rather than his office mate Vikas.
The gist that comes out is, do something with a will, a will to make your work standalone. A will to nurture your work with some extra efforts. Have that Out of the Box thinking capability in you.
The key to deliver more and to be successful is to never give excuses
Sometimes it just doesn’t work out, or something doesn’t quite go well the way you expected, but one becomes successful only when one doesn’t quit, never gives up and makes no excuses.
When a task seems to be vast, break it down into smaller tasks and start ceasing them.
